kulturhauptstadt2024.at

kulturhauptstadt2024.at is a discussion platform concerning the Austrian culture capital of Europe in 2024. It was created in 2014 at the Technical University of Vienna and by now is active not only in Austria but beyond.

Next to Estonia, a city in Austria will be able to hold the title of ECoC 2024.  – The official application process started in the summer of 2017.

The  initiative kulturhauptstadt2024.at began with a course open to all Austrian architecture-, landscape architecture and planning programs. More than 100 students participated in teams, joining together students of different institutions, developing concepts and scenarios for the European Capital of Culture 2024. The outcome was presented with texts, interviews and commentaries in the first issue of the paper „kulturhauptstadt 2024“, published in 2015.

Between September 2015 and November 2016 the 44 projects were also shown in a traveling exhibition with ten stops in Austria. The exhibition furthermore dealt with risks and chances of an application. At every stop discussions with experts and visitors of the exhibition were being held. In the second issue of the newspaper, kulturhauptstadt2024.at, the state of inner-Austrian developments were presented.
